Tigers 13U Girls Win Gold and Are Headed for Premier Division!

At the Ontario Volleyball Association’s 13U Girls McGregor Cup – Championship A Division, this Tigers team hit the ground running!

Our Tigers won 4 out of their 5 sets during round-robin action to win their pool against KW Predators and Cambridge Scorpions.

Being seeded as A1, the Tigers had a 3 hour break until their quarter-final match and it took a couple volleys to get them back into the game. They won the quarter finals against Forest City Blue in a tie breaker set (25-20; 23-25; 15-12).

In the Semi Finals, the London Sharks 12U showed us how to fight for our spot with two sets (25-12; 25-18).

The Finals put us up against the Cambridge Scorpions again! Last medal game against them in December ended with us getting the silver. But it was our turn! We won the Gold!

This moves us up to the 13U Premier Division for February! Good luck Ladies!!!

Great start to 2018 for Tigers 16U Black

This past weekend, the Waterloo Tigers 16u Black team was playing up in only their 2nd tournament at the 17u level. Ranked 9th out of 12 teams going into the tournament, the pool they were in required them to play the top ranked team of Georgetown Impact 17u in their first match. The girls fought hard but eventually loss in a very respectably 20-25 & 19-25. Their next match was against the 8th ranked Mississauga Royals, and the team continued with their strong offensive play and winning the match in two straight sets 25-13 & 25-15.
Finishing 2nd in their Pool play gave them a favorable match-up against the Jr. Gryphons Red 16u team but meant they would need to play 4 straight matches to make the finals. These Tigers promptly disposed of the Guelph team in two straight sets 25-6 & 25-16 to set up a tough match against the 2nd ranked Etobicoke Titans Promethius in the quarterfinals.

For the remainder of the day, the Tigers had to rely on not only their strong offensive play, but primarily on their defensive system and never quit mentality. Winning their quarterfinal match 13-25, 25-16 & 15-10 against the Titans. The semifinals pitted the Tigers against 3rd ranked team and the eventual gold medalist, a very strong 16u team from Georgetown. Pushing the Impact team to 3 sets but eventually losing 25-19, 13-25 & 11-15.

Without any breaks throughout the whole afternoon, the girls really had to dig deep and find the extra energy and team spirit to help them pull through. In the Bronze game, the Tigers faced the 4th ranked team the Waves. Showing true grit and dealing with a few injuries throughout, the team fought back after losing the first set 20-25 to take the following two sets 25-22 & 15-9 and eventually claiming their Bronze medal.

Congratulations Tigers 16U Black!

Weather Didn’t Take This 13U Tigers Team Down! It’s a Silver!

Weather threw a wrench into the start of this 14U Girls McGregor Cup Tournament in Stratford, but with a shift in the schedule this 13U Tigers Black team started their day.

They won their pool play in the morning winning 4 out of their 6 sets.

After lunch, they were back on the court and played some great games with close scores along the way.   This included one round against our own clubs 14U team!  Red and White shirts all over the court!  Go Waterloo!!

They played semi finals against Scorpions Gold 14U and came away with the win (25-20, 25-22) and headed into the Gold/Silver match against our hosts, Stratford Stingers 14U!  Our team won the first match 25-19.  The second match began, but had to restart due to a misunderstanding.  Thrown off their game with the restart, and with a tough server on the Stratford team, we tied up with a loss at 23-25.   Into the final set of the match, the team played their best and came away with the Silver medal!  What a great end to a very long day!

Congratulations  Tigers 13U Black!
